100 Books Before Graduation

The goal of this teen and tween reading challenge is to improve literacy skills and reading achievements while they read for prizes.

How It Works

  • Students in grades 6-12 are eligible to sign up and participate in the 100 Books Before Graduation program.

  • Sign-ups can begin the day you graduate from 5th grade. You’ll be an official 6th grader then!

  • Program participation will conclude once the participant has graduated from high school, earned a GED, or turns 18.

What To Do

  1. Sign up at the Youth or Adult Reference desks to pick up your reading log.

  2. Choose any book, eBook, audiobook, graphic novel, manga, etc. to read. It all counts!

  3. Update your reading log after each book read.

  4. Stop in after 25, 50, 75, and 100 books read to receive your rewards!

Frequently Asked Questions

100 books is a lot! How will I have time to read all of them? It’s a marathon, not a sprint! This program is a done at your own pace. If signing up at age 13, you will have at least 4 years to complete the challenge.

Which books or types of books can I read? ALL OF THEM! You can read physical books, eBooks, audiobooks, and graphic novels and manga! There is NO required reading list. Just make sure the books are age-level appropriate and tween/teen-rated or higher.

Can I use the same book more than once if I re-read it? The challenge requires 100 different books so you cannot track the same book more than once.

I started a book but don’t like it and don’t want to finish it. Does it still count? If you have read at least half of the book and written a review explaining why you didn’t like it, then yes, you can still count it.

Can I add the books I need to read for school or a Summer Reading Program? ABSOLUTELY!

I read my 100 books but still have time before graduation. Can I enter the program again? You did amazing! You are more than welcome to continue reading and logging your books, but you will only receive prizes for milestones reached for the first time.
