About Friends

The Friends of the Wayne Public Library is a non-profit group involved in activities which directly benefit the library. Among it's goals are:

  • To stimulate public support for the Library.
  • To encourage greater use of the Library.
  • To enjoy the fellowship of other Library Friends.
  • To encourage gifts, endowments and bequests to the Library.
  • To support the Library in developing its services and facilities for the community.

Some members support the Friends simply by paying their annual dues, while others become more involved by donating their time. Every dollar raised by the Friends is funneled directly back to the Wayne Public Library. The Friends personal and financial support is critical to our library's efforts to provide the best possible service and materials to our community. Why not join today?

Fundraising

Among the chief fund raising events the Friends sponsor every year are:

  • Wine and Cheese Tasting Party
  • Used Book Sale

Proceeds from these fundraisers have helped the Wayne Public Library in many ways. Among the materials and supplies purchased by the Friends are DVD and CD security cases as well as a portable public address system. Improvements to our Youth Department have included a world globe, toy train set and Leap Frog interactive learning systems. In addition, the Friends provide funds for the prizes awarded during our annual Summer Reading Program. The Friends also sponsor many programs and guest speakers throughout the year.

Friends of the Wayne Public Library Endowment Fund

Did you know that contributions made to the Wayne Library can help you lower your income tax? Here's how:

  SINGLE JOINTLY
Amount of Gift $200 $400
State Tax Credit (50% of Gift) $100 $200
Federal Tax Credit (33% tax bracket) $66 $132
Total Tax Savings $166 $332
Actual Cost to Taxpayer $34 $68

Reduce your Federal and Michigan Income Tax!

Michigan and Federal tax codes permit individuals to reduce their Michigan income tax with a credit of 50% of the amount contributed to a public library. The tax credits allow for up to 50% of a $200 donation ($100) for an individual or 50% of a $400 donation ($200) for a married couple filing jointly. Smaller amounts, of course, are always welcome and subject to the same credit. Additionally, another tax credit for up to an equal amount may be taken for contributions to the Friends of the Wayne Public Library Endowment Fund, administered by the Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan. Donations to the Library may be designated for memorials or special activities. Information about contributing to the Endowment Fund can be found at the Library. A great opportunity to help the Library and lower your taxes!

Businesses may take a similar credit towards their Michigan Single Business Tax

If you would like to make a contribution, forms can be found at the Community Bulletin Board area.
